{"id":117,"date":"2012-08-23T02:44:30","date_gmt":"2012-08-23T02:44:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.formstonecastle.com\/?p=117"},"modified":"2012-08-23T02:53:12","modified_gmt":"2012-08-23T02:53:12","slug":"the-baltimore-plan-1953","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.formstonecastle.com\/?p=117","title":{"rendered":"The Baltimore Plan (1953)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Over the last few weeks of demolition, we&#8217;ve been finding newspapers behind walls and under floors. \u00a0Lots of great stuff I plan on posting down the road. \u00a0Most of the dates I&#8217;ve been finding have been 1953 so tonight I did a quick search for &#8220;Baltimore 1953&#8221;. \u00a0This short film is what I found:<\/p>\n<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/-52MmEdIqOU\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\"><\/iframe><\/center><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Called\u00a0\u201cThe Bal\u00adti\u00admore Plan,\u201d this 20-minute Ency\u00adclopae\u00addia Bri\u00adtan\u00adnica film from 1953 describes an urban renewal plan of the same name, ini\u00adti\u00adated in 1945. Once a blighted area was iden\u00adti\u00adfied, a cadre of city agen\u00adcies (hous\u00ading, san\u00adi\u00adta\u00adtion, police, etc.) would con\u00adduct inspec\u00adtions and rig\u00ador\u00adously enforce code vio\u00adla\u00adtions, forc\u00ading the own\u00aders to either vacate or fix up their prop\u00ader\u00adties. A hous\u00ading court, the first in the coun\u00adtry, was set up as the final arbiter for stub\u00adborn cases.
