{"id":176,"date":"2012-09-09T20:00:22","date_gmt":"2012-09-09T20:00:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.formstonecastle.com\/?p=176"},"modified":"2012-09-10T16:08:05","modified_gmt":"2012-09-10T16:08:05","slug":"tearing-the-place-up-part-ii","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.formstonecastle.com\/?p=176","title":{"rendered":"Tearing the Place Up (Part II)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>To prepare for our radiant floor heating, we had to remove all the layers of flooring down to the original 130 year old wood flooring. \u00a0I thought this could wait until last until I realized the nails from the sub flooring could possibly puncture the radiant heat&#8217;s PEX tubing. \u00a0The layers consisted of: carpet, foam, wood paneling subfloor, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.formstonecastle.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/linoleum.jpg\" target=\"_blank\">linoleum<\/a>, amazingly preserved newspapers from 1953, paint, and finally the original wood flooring.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_179\" style=\"width: 539px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.formstonecastle.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/P1020494.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-179\" class=\"size-large wp-image-179\" title=\"Layers of flooring\" src=\"https:\/\/www.formstonecastle.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/P1020494-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"529\" height=\"705\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.formstonecastle.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/P1020494-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.formstonecastle.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/P1020494-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 529px) 100vw, 529px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-179\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The layers coming up. \u00a0It would have went faster had it not been for the thousands of nails holding down the sub floor.<\/p><\/div>\n<div id=\"attachment_180\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.formstonecastle.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/woodFloors01.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-180\" class=\" wp-image-180 \" title=\"woodFloors01\" src=\"https:\/\/www.formstonecastle.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/woodFloors01-300x230.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"383\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.formstonecastle.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/woodFloors01-300x230.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.formstonecastle.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/woodFloors01.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-180\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The 2nd floor cleared of carpet and sub flooring.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The original wood flooring is in decent condition, but not perfect. \u00a0When the house was retrofitted with electric, they simply tore up the floor boards above where they needed to run wires, breaking the tongue &amp; groove. \u00a0These should be replaced.<\/p>\n<p>There was also some water damage where we are putting the new bathroom. \u00a0After some thinking we decided to take up the floor boards and replace them with 3\/4&#8243;
