{"id":395,"date":"2013-06-06T13:33:25","date_gmt":"2013-06-06T13:33:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.formstonecastle.com\/?p=395"},"modified":"2013-07-02T17:20:12","modified_gmt":"2013-07-02T17:20:12","slug":"its-getting-hot-in-here","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.formstonecastle.com\/?p=395","title":{"rendered":"Its Getting Hot in Here"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/wondermark.com\/c\/2013-05-03-934power.gif\" width=\"720\" height=\"278\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We should have started the process of installing air conditioning a month earlier. \u00a0Its June now and in Baltimore it can get into the 90s with high humidity&#8230; and has.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve decided to stay ductless. \u00a0We&#8217;ve compared brands online and settled on the Mercedes of Mini-split systems: Mitsubishi. \u00a0After a visit from a contractor that Home Depot lined up, we got a quote for a Mr. Slim system: $14,000 installed. \u00a0HA! \u00a0That&#8217;s not going to happen. \u00a0We looked up the exact parts he quoted and found the parts to be around $4000. \u00a0We&#8217;ll see how I feel once its installed, but $8000 for labor is a bit ridiculous. \u00a0In classic Mike &amp; Siri manner, we&#8217;ve gone and jumped in with both feet (4 total) and bought the same system online. \u00a0We can do this ourselves.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_396\" style=\"width: 2458px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.formstonecastle.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/mxz2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-396\" class=\"size-full wp-image-396\" alt=\"The Guts\" src=\"https:\/\/www.formstonecastle.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/mxz2.jpg\" width=\"2448\" height=\"3264\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.formstonecastle.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/mxz2.jpg 2448w, https:\/\/www.formstonecastle.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/mxz2-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.formstonecastle.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/mxz2-768x1024.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2448px) 100vw, 2448px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-396\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Guts<\/p><\/div>\n<p>We&#8217;ve picked everything up and it looks good. \u00a0Like our washing machine, fridge and dishwasher, this thing is a scratch and dent model. \u00a0There is a little dent on the \u00a0service cover, but once this is on the roof, nobody will ever see it. \u00a0We got a $200 discount for this which covers the line set.<\/p>\n<p>The technology for this is more advanced, but the same concept as our True fridge. \u00a0There is a compressor \/ condenser unit that is separate. \u00a0In this case it will go on our roof. \u00a0It connects via power and a high and low line set to the indoor units. \u00a0This compressor supports 3 circuits. \u00a0One for each floor. \u00a0The indoor units are about 3&#8242; x 1&#8242; x 1&#8217;and mount on the wall. \u00a0A 3&#8243; hole is made in the wall for the line set, power wires and condensation line. \u00a0We&#8217;re going to run these up the outside wall to the roof where we will put the compressor. \u00a0Speaking of the compressor, this thing is BIG. \u00a0Bigger than I thought it would be at least. \u00a0It stands around 3&#8242; tall and is just as wide.<\/p>\n<p>Siri is taking a trip next week and I hope to get this mostly set up while she is away. \u00a0I&#8217;ll need to mount the wall units and drill the holes through the walls in 3 spots. \u00a0I&#8217;ll also need to recruit some \u00a0helpers and get the compress onto the roof where I&#8217;ll bolt it in and wire it up. \u00a0Next step is getting the line sets installed.
