Like the set above them they had been repaired far too many times and way too poorly. \u00a0Look at all these bandaids. There was even a dab of caulk holding this together.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.formstonecastle.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/DSC_0580.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-681\" src=\"https:\/\/www.formstonecastle.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/DSC_0580-576x1024.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_0580\" width=\"311\" height=\"550\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There was certainly some craftsmanship involved with these tight double winder stairs though. \u00a0Once most of the repairs were removed, you could see a bit of elegance in how they were built. \u00a0Harder to see is the wear and tear on the risers. \u00a0How many feet needed to climb this staircase in the last 150 years to wear down spots in them?<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-680\" src=\"https:\/\/www.formstonecastle.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/DSC_0585-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_0585\" width=\"529\" height=\"298\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.formstonecastle.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/DSC_0585-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.formstonecastle.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/DSC_0585-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 529px) 100vw, 529px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Yet, out they had to come, because, like before, there were bricks to be done. The steps in the bricks are no accident. They&#8217;re the size of our Ikea shelves. We&#8217;ll be adding 3 under the stairs to the 6 already have along the wall in the kitchen.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_678\" style=\"width: 539px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.formstonecastle.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/DSC_0619.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-678\" class=\"size-large wp-image-678\" src=\"https:\/\/www.formstonecastle.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/DSC_0619-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"After\" width=\"529\" height=\"298\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.formstonecastle.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/DSC_0619-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.formstonecastle.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/DSC_0619-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 529px) 100vw, 529px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-678\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">After<\/p><\/div>\n<p>While the top stair had one turn with 3 steps \/\u00a090\u00b0, the bottom stair case has two turns: the bottom\u00a0with\u00a04 stairs \/ 90\u00b0\u00a0and the top with\u00a03 stairs \/ 66\u00b0. Naturally this makes the stairs smaller (22\u00b0 vs 30\u00b0). \u00a0To correct the bottom,\u00a0we\u00a0spread out the bottom 4 stairs from 90\u00b0 to 120\u00b0 overall and reduce the top stair which was integrated into the 2nd floor making all the curving stairs 30\u00b0. \u00a0The 5 straight stairs in the center had their run increased from 8&#8243; to 8 5\/8&#8243;. \u00a0Not a huge gain, but it will do.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.formstonecastle.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/DSC_0872-e1426791243381.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-677\" src=\"https:\/\/www.formstonecastle.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/DSC_0872-e1426791243381-576x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Steelzup\" width=\"311\" height=\"550\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Only a few days in at this point and we already done with the steel. This is quite different than the last set. \u00a0Getting there. \u00a0Less than a week to go and we can open this nice bottle of champagne that we set aside for when the bricks and stairs are all done.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Saying goodbye to the old stairs was hard \/ not hard.
